Newly enacted legislation in Illinois will phase out subminimum wage for employees with disabilities. The goal of the law is to eliminate the use of this wage by December 31, 2029.
Through coordinated efforts, the Employment and Economic Opportunity for Persons with Disabilities Task Force and the Illinois Council on Developmental Disabilities will work with an academic partner to develop a plan with recommended outcomes, actions, and benchmarks for phasing out the subminimum wage. It will span over multiple years. Grants will be available to support the transition.
